In this creative research, the author analyzes, explores and organizes the styles of works of leading masters from Taiwan and China as well as important factors to be considered in pottery designs, through methodologies such as data collection and literature review, to provide important points of reference for emulation in the creation of handmade ceramic teapots. By further incorporating important factors in the design and creation of clay pots and continuing the legacy of excellence in traditional pottery craft, the author aims to create a handmade clay pot that is reflective of a personal style.

As an overview, this paper will engage in the discussion in the following framework. In the first chapter, the creative background, motive, objective, and terminology will be explained, and the research scope and limitations will be defined. In the second chapter, elements such as the definition, origin, history of development, structure, and form of handmade ceramic teapots will be set out as key points in the literature review. In the third chapter, the styles of works of leading masters from Taiwan and China as well as important factors to be considered in pottery designs are analyzed, explored and organized as important points of reference for emulation in the creation of handmade clay pots. In the fourth chapter, the vitality of plants is infused into tea ware based on the notion of subscribing to nature, with Taiwanese clay as medium and material and sculpted using a combination of pinching techniques. Hence the work and exhibition are themed “Plant and Ware”, as derived from the meanings of the words to communicate the creative concept. The fifth chapter provides the conclusion and outlook of the research, where it is hoped that this creative research has provided substantial valuable experience in terms of creative thinking and techniques. It is believed that the process of this research and the foundation of experience established by its results will expand the development of pottery creation in the future.
