The problems of drug use and abuse have spread all over the world for a long time. Aiding and abetting by the gangs, drug dealers have used delinquent students to smuggle drugs into the campus in recent years which has caused many serious social problems. Many young people who are lack of good judgment have become the key consumers of the drugs on campus. As a result, the author has reflected on how to keep the young people away from the seduction of the drugs and analyze and evaluate how the youth get involved in drug use and abuse.
The purposes of the art creation for the study are as following: 1)To draw the public’s attention to the ignored social issues and to raise their awareness for the harms of drugs to young people and make them to be aware of the drug abuse problem in the world;2)To understand the truth of drug addiction, to show the consequence after short joyfulness of using drugs and to reduce the demand of drugs by awakening the public’s consciousness;3)To transfer the Conceptual Art into images, so the young people will have more tangible idea about the consequence of using drugs by the images displayed by indigo dyeing works;4) To combine the indigo dyeing creations with Surrealism and Montage Art, so as to create the interactions between each work and viewers. The core of the creation includes three aspects, i.e. to draw attention to drug abuse and to combine Conceptual Art and Indigo dyeing skills. And to develop the form of expression of Surrealism and Montage Art through literature review to present the irrational images appeared in interviewees’ mind and dreams based on the narrative of them. The author integrated these art forms into indigo dyeing skills such as “wax-resist dyeing, dyeing with a mold and tie dyeing” and applied the skills to create the images the interviewees see during the cycle of drug addiction, i.e. honeymoon stage, binging stage, withdraw stage and returning-back stage. The author creates ten large site-specific installations and the narrative structure of these ten artworks followed the procedure mentioned above. Not only do the artworks break the frame of the traditional expression ways of indigo dyeing, but also draw the public’s attention to the problems of drug use and abuse. The author would like to use the creation of Conceptual Art to help more young people understand the truth of drug addiction by their own and therefore develop good social values. |
